Agriculture has played a huge role in the decline of our endemic animals. Intensive land uses such as dairying and sheep and beef farming has had devastating effects on many of our native species.
This project explored using data visualisation to tell a story. I investigated the impact agriculture has on New Zealand’s wildlife and environment, then used imagery and symbolism in the data visualisation to evoke emotion and empathy. The project took me through extensive research; data collection, interpretation and visualisation; copy writing and editorial design.
Representing the destruction of the native forests, the centre of the following graphs were cut away in the printed version, adding an emotive and three-dimensional element.
